JOB TITLE: District Athletic Trainer

DUTY DAYS: 220 Days

PAY GRADE: T07-T08

Primary Purpose:

Plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of the PISD athletic training programs. Ability to prevent, recognize, assess, manage, treat, and recondition athletic injuries and illnesses. Ensure that our district has a quality Sports Medicine program for its students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Valid license from Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers
  • Meets criteria as defined by district
  • Current CPR and AED certifications
  • Master’s Degree preferred

     Special Knowledge/Skills:

Meets specifications of position as advertised

Experience:

Meets experience criteria as defined by district

Major Responsibilities and Duties:  

  1. Coordinate and ensure injury prevention and treatment for extracurricular activities
  2. Fulfill all game responsibilities
  3. Follow district policies and all procedures set by Athletic Director
  4. Work with campus athletic trainers, coaches, doctors, and parents to ensure injury prevention and treatment for extracurricular activities
  5. Maintain current files of athletic injuries
  6. Assume responsibility for insurance questions and answers
  7. Work closely with medical community for mutual benefit
  8. Remain current in the field of Sports Medicine through conferences and literature
  9. Assume responsibility for all district AEDs; provide batteries, pads, etc.
  10. Work closely with Houston Methodist official sponsor of PISD Athletics
  11. Conduct special projects and perform other duties as assigned by Athletic Director

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions

Physical Demands:

Frequent prolonged and irregular hours; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; steady phone interactions; moderate standing, walking, and bending. Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside, exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicate diseases; frequent district-wide and state-wide travel
