Functional Title:          Athletic Trainer Internship

Reports To:                  Director of Sports Medicine

Primary Function:        Supervise the initial care, evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for assigned sport.

Major Duties

  • Game and Practice Coverage
    • Practices:
      • Monday – Saturday (approximately 55-65 hrs/wk)
      • Practice occasionally on Sunday
      • Practice times to be covered:
        • 6:00am, 10:00am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm, and 5:00pm 7:00pm (depending on sport coverage)
      • Games:
        • Home games must be attended for the sport being covered
      • Travel
        • Travel to designated events with teams and provide coverage. Prepare letters for ATC @ other universities so our athletes get medical attention they need
      • Maintain Licensure and Certification
        • Complete CEU’s to suffice audits
      • Inventory
        • Bid out for yearly supplies and maintain athletic training room supplies
      • Recruit athletic training students
        • Maintain scholarship budgets and work study money
        • Interview potential students and graduate students
        • Assign ATS to sports
      • Medical coverage
        • Make sure coverage is in place for hosted events using our facilities:
          • The Rip Griffin, Hays field, Soccer field, Plains Capital field
        • Organize physicals
          • Schedule physical examinations for assigned sport and assist Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Trainer with team physicals
          • Maintain medical charts and confidentiality
        • Communicate daily with team physicians concerning assigned athletes
          • Schedule appointments, surgeries, and follow-ups
          • Attend surgeries, write and instruct rehabs
          • Overlooking general health of athletes and refer for treatment
        • Paperwork
          • Insurance
          • Injury Reports
          • Treatment logs
          • Progress notes
        • Mentoring Lubbock Christian University ATS
          • Teaching in Athletic Training Room
          • Taping, Evaluation, Treatment
          • Maintain clean and sanitized training room
          • Scheduling in-services and teaching in-services
  • Communicate daily with coaches and administrators of designated sports and events.
    • Establish a good working relationship with coaches and administrators
    • Send daily injury reports to coaches
    • Communicate effectively and frequently with coaches on athlete status

 

 

Job Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

BOC Certified Athletic Trainer

Licensed by the state of Texas

First Aid and CPR certified

Speak clearly and informatively in positive or negative situations.

Ability to respond promptly and effectively.

Ability to demonstrate accurate and thorough decisions.

Ability to compile and prepare reports requiring attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize work activities.

Ability to exercise independent judgment.

Ability to explain policies and procedures to staff.

Ability to follow instructions and respond positively to management direction.

Education and Experience:

Education: Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field required.

Experience: Limited and wanting to work at the college setting

Physical Requirements:  While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Work 55-65 hour weeks including some Saturdays and Sundays
  • Lift objects that weigh 10-75 pounds on a regular basis
  • Drive car to practices and appointments
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time
