MOODY ISD ATHLETIC TRAINER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Athletic Trainer/Teacher
Status: Exempt
Reports To: Athletic Director/Principal
Pay Grade: Salary/Stipend
Contract Days: TBA

Primary Purpose:
Be responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of all athletic injuries.
In compliance with district and UIL policy, provide a safe environment for all
treatment procedures, maintain all physical and medical forms, maintain all
treatment records, provide coverage of all post district games, as well as provide
an educational environment for the enhancement of student trainers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Training Room, Field House, Student Athletic Trainers and all athletic facilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in physical education/athletic training or related areas
Texas State Athletic Training License.
Texas teaching certificate.
Valid license from Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
Current adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external
defibrillator (AED) certification.
Compliance with all TEA and UIL requirements.
Commercial Driver License (Recommended)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
Knowledge of athletic training techniques and procedures in order to provide
the proper organized and optimal care for athletes within Moody ISD
Experience:
At least one year student teaching or approved internship
Work-related experience

equipment and supplies.
● Maintain inventories of athletic equipment and supplies.
● Demonstrate leadership in care of facilities.
● Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Code of Ethics for Athletic Trainers as
outlined by the state of Texas.
● Attend appropriate inservice and join organizations that enhance
professional improvement and growth.
● Assume responsibility for game coverage and student trainer coverage.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Instructional Management:
● Instruct the students about the hazards and results of
overstepping their bounds.
● Instruct student trainers about their limitations as student
athletic trainers.
● Use appropriate teaching techniques for athletic training.
● Provide a professional working atmosphere.
● Instill a sense of responsibility and lifetime working skills.
● Supervise the athletic program to ensure proper methods of preventing and/or
treating injuries.
● Assume responsibility for supervision of students while students are
involved in program field activity or while using facilities.
● Provide opportunities (clinics, workshops, etc.) for advancement of
athletic training skills.
● Provide pertinent scholarship information and opportunities.
● Organize and conduct practice sessions in an efficient manner.
● Maintain proper discipline among participating students.
Student Management:
● Maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents about
(program filled) issues.
● Demonstrate a high degree of interest in students that will help foster students’
positive interest.
● Maintain a positive and effective working relationship with students.
● Properly instruct participating students in the policy and procedures of athletic
training as well as the handbook.
● Require students to act in the highest standards of professionalism.
● Emphasize the need to maintain satisfactory academic performance and
make students aware of tutorial services.
● Advise students and parents about the existence of intercollegiate athletic
scholarships available.
● Keep students informed on academic requirements for scholarships and
eligibility
● for participation in intercollegiate athletic training.
● Monitor students’ academic progress on a regular basis and report findings
to the athletic office.
● Provide programs for academic assistance to encourage and assist students
who need help.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Athletic Training Performance Responsibilities:
● Treat all injuries for which he/she is qualified to treat.
● Work under the direction of the team physician in treatment of all major injuries
or injuries for which he/she is not qualified to treat.
● Keep record of all injuries and treatments.
● Keep on file all physical examination reports signed by the physician.
● Obtain all information about insurance, both family and school policies.
● Keep the athletic office informed about surgeries and make certain all proper
insurance forms are completed.
● Take responsibility for working with and developing the proper relationship
with team physicians, coaches, athletes, and family of injured athletes.
● Develop as many student trainers as possible.
● Develop a daily, weekly or monthly schedule for all student trainers.
● Always contact parents to give the extent of injury and provide follow up.
● Always check with a physician when in doubt.
● Recognize that the physician has the final say about participation.
● Ensure that the parents understand the insurance claims that are
filed respectively.
● Report any playing hazard found in practice or play areas.
● Keep inventory of all training room supplies.
● Prepare annual requests for new and additional training supply; to be
submitted to the Director of Athletics.
● Be present at all high school football practice sessions, all varsity athletic
competitions on home playing field, (varsity football games home and away),
and as many of the sub-varsity competitions on home field as possible. Must be
present at all other athletic contests as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
● Treat injuries of students in all sports with equal enthusiasm. Does not
discriminate between race, religious beliefs, or gender.
● Maintain a close harmonious working relationship with coaches and athletes of all
sports.
● Maintain a level of professionalism throughout the training staff, as well as
the district and the community.
● Be present at all high school football practices and games. In all other sports, it is
expected that the trainer(s) attend all home varsity events. When two varsity
teams are playing at the same site, the trainer should attend the contest that
he/she feels may be most apt to injury. Even though the trainer(s) is not expected
to attend all sub-varsity events, he/she should attend a large majority of these
home events. The trainer(s) shall also travel with any team in a play-off situation.
The play-off team takes precedence over any other team.

JOB DESCRIPTION
● The trainer(s) is neither a physician, nor a coach, but a liaison between both.
He/she strives to take care of each athlete in the most effective way possible,
keeping all (parents, coaches, physicians) fully informed. Any student who is
injured to the extent to miss more than one week of practice will be directed to a
physician. Should a situation develop where a coach and the trainer do not agree
on a student’s status, the recommendation of the attending physician will be
followed. The trainer may require a coach to sign a written statement if a student is
allowed to play against the judgment of the attending trainer. The trainer’s job
involves recommending proper activity. The final authority on all participation is
that of the parent(s) and the attending physician.
