Job Description
Job Title: Athletics Trainer FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Athletic Director Pay Grade: PR-2

Primary Purpose:
To treat athletes or refer athletes to a physician for treatment of all injuries sustained by the athlete participating in the athletics program

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Medicine or related field
Texas Board of Athletics Trainers License
Texas Teaching Certificate preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operations of the athletic program
Knowledge of sports medicine and training techniques and procedures
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data and write routine reports and correspondence
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and medical procedures manuals.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in different formats
Experience:
Licensed and certified athletic trainer
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop a daily, weekly, and monthly work schedule for all student trainers and managers.
- Treat minor injuries of students for all sports.
- Collaborate with the family physician in the treatment of athletes’ major injuries.
- Keep a record of all injuries.
- Communicate with physicians about injuries.
- Communicate with parent(s) regarding the extent and progress of the injury.
- Keep a written record of all treatments administered
- Keep on file physical examination reports signed by physician Keep the Athletic Director informed about surgeries and ascertains that family insurance claims have been filed when applicable.
- Approve all medical and hospital bills for payment, after ensuring that family insurance has been paid in full.
- Inform the parent(s) about the policies regarding payment of bills, use of insurance, and the role of the team physician.
- Assist the Athletic Director in the administration of the athletics injury and insurance program.
- Keep all records confidential and up to date and secure at all times.
- Obtain information about family insurance.
- Develop a positive relationship with the coaches, athlete, physicians, and family of the injured athlete.
- Report any playing hazards found in practice or play area.
- Maintain an inventory of and secures all trainers’ supplies.
- Prepare annual requests for trainer’s supplies to be submitted to the Athletic Director.
- Arrange to have a medical doctor available at all home football games.
- Administer the process that requires each athlete to have a physical examination and parent’s permission to play before being allowed to participate in any sport.
- Attend all athletics contests and practices as assigned by the Athletic Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the Assistant Athletic Trainer assigned to his/her campus.

Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); frequent driving
Posture: Sitting; prolonged standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping
Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions, running, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent physical movements associated with sport; moderate grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension and reaching
Lifting: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
Environment: Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; noise level is usually moderate; exposure to outside weather conditions
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent prolonged and irregular hours
