TITLE:  Assistant Athletic Trainer

LOCATION:  Athens Campus


SALARY:  $38,515 – $39,366

Two years coaching/teaching in an educational setting.


Experience in higher education


NATABOC Athletic Trainer Certification required

Licensed Athletic Trainer by TDLR or eligible

Certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of and commitment to NJCAA rules and regulations.

Good organizational and time management skills.

Experience in working with a diverse population.

Valid driver’s license and ability to meet university’s insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required.

Designs and implements basic fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs for student-athletes; may design customized plans to meet individual needs.  Operates therapeutic devices and equipment; fits braces, guards, mouthpieces, and other similar devices. Administers first aid to injured players such as giving artificial respiration, cleaning and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing. Wraps ankles, fingers, or wrists in synthetic skin, protective gauze, and adhesive tape to support muscles and ligaments. Communicate with parents, physicians, head athletic trainer and coaches concerning injured athletes keeping the injured athlete’s coach informed of the athlete’s playing or practice status. Assist in deciding when an athlete may return to practice or playing status, following an athletic injury. Oversees the daily management of training room, including ordering and storage of supplies and equipment. Serve as a consultant on athletic equipment and its fitting. Calls physician for seriously injured athletes. Supervises safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring elimination of undue hazards. May assist injured athletes in completing and submitting insurance claims. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation. Assist Head Athletic Trainer to establish and execute program for the yearly physical examination of all prospective athletes. Assist to establish specific procedures to be carried out by a coach and/or student trainer in the event of an emergency when care of an athlete is needed.   Assist to maintain records on athletic injuries, referrals to physicians, and treatments given, as needed.  Attend approved in-service programs, clinics, symposiums, and conventions for athletic training continuing education hours required by state law to maintain Athletic Training License.
