November 19th, 2020

Dear Fellow Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer,

My name is Jose A. Ramos, Jr. and I am the Co-Head Athletic Trainer at McAllen High School in McAllen, Texas and an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). I am currently a doctoral candidate of sports management, under the guidance of dissertation committee chair Dr. Fred Cromartie, at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama. As partial fulfillment for my Doctor of Education, I am currently conducting a study for my dissertation, involving all athletic trainers that hold a license to practice in the state of Texas and that currently practice at a secondary school (Jr. High/Middle School or High School). The purpose of this study is to: 1) assess what part the Texas secondary public and private school athletic trainer plays in developing and implementing risk management plans or strategies,  2) examine the perceptions of the secondary public and private school athletic trainer in Texas with regards to risk management topics while also 3) evaluating the current views of risk management practices and strategies in the athletic departments that the Texas secondary public and private school athletic trainer work in, 4) recognizing what mediums the Texas secondary school athletic trainer employs in the development of risk management strategies, and 5) to determine if significant relationships exist between demographic variables of gender, level of education, licensure/certification, age, experience, type of athletic training education, school classification, and official job title.

The questionnaire will ask you to reply to a series of questions regarding risk management perceptions and practice along with personal and employment demographics. The questionnaire is anonymous and will take up to 30 minutes to complete. Participation in this study is voluntary and all answers will remain confidential on a secured server. This study poses no risk to your safety or well-being and compensation will not be provided.
