Job Qualifications: Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree

Master’s Degree Preferred


ATC Preferred

CPR/AED/First Aid certified (Instructor preferred)


Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of the comprehensive high school athletic training and sports medicine program

Knowledge of athletic training services to student athletes

Knowledge of HIPAA requirements

Knowledge of and the ability to use modalities such as mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, electricity, sound, massage and use of therapeutic exercises, reconditioning exercise and fitness programs

Ability to communicate with physicians

Ability to implement policies and procedures

Strong organizational skills, communication and interpersonal skills



Working with High School athletes in a professional trainer capacity.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be found appropriate and acceptable to administration.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


  1. Assists in overseeing and coordinating the Athletic Training and Sports Medicine program
  2. Promote and protect the optimal health status of the student athletes
  3. Assists in providing athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with TAPPS and the Diocese of Dallas Training practices
  4. Assists in maintaining appropriate general treatment orders to be reviewed annually and approved by the team physician.
  5. Provides athletic training services for all home athletic contests, all varsity football games, and playoff games as needed.
  6. Acts as a liaison between family physicians and specialists, the Diocese of Dallas, athletes, and their parents.


Other Information:  Maintains a current program of professional growth by keeping abreast of scholarly productions, research studies in the field of sports medicine and athletic training, participating in workshops, seminars, university visits professional organizations and/or advanced coursework at colleges or universities.  Demonstrates personal grooming, good health practices and conduct expected of professional personnel.  Attends all professional meetings as required.  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policies of the Diocese of Dallas and John Paul II High School.
