2009-2010 academic all-state award
Nominations for the 2009-2010 Academic All-State Award will open on Monday October 5, 2009. Eligible students are high school senior student athletic trainers who have an overall GPA of 92 or higher between their 9th and 11th grade years and the first 6 weeks of their senior year. The student must be in good standing as a student athletic trainer at the nominating LAT's high school and be of good moral character.
The nominating athletic trainer must be a member in good standing of the TSATA by October 20, 2009 and must supervise the nominated student athletic trainer on a regular basis.

date set for SM I&II Houston 2010
The first Sports Medicine I & II Instructors course of 2010 will be held in Houston on January 14th. The cost of the Sports Medicine I&II Instructors Course is $425. Houston will also be the site of the first Sports Medicine Instructors Update which will also be held on January 14th at the same location after lunch. In order to be eligible for the update you must have previously taken the Sports Medicine I&II Course. The cost for the update is $100. Otho Davis is being considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, this is the first time that an Athletic Trainer has been considered for this honor. We encourage everyone to go to the Fan's Choice website and cast your vote.

sb 82 information
SB 82, the 80th Texas Legislature added the TEC, §33.202, requiring the commissioner to develop and adopt an extracurricular activity safety training program. This rule has been completed and adopts the UIL's Extracurricular Activity Safety Training Program.
Safety Training is required for Coaches, Athletic Trainers, certain Physicians, and Student Athletes. Athletic Trainers who hold a current LAT credential already meet the requirement, Coaches must complete the online training program and print the certificate of completion, and Student Athletes must receive training which can be provided by the school.

New uil pre-participation physical form
The UIL updated the Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form on 1/6/09. The Medical History portion has been modified to include an area for a school official to sign that they have reviewed the health history and determined that a new physical evaluation is or is not required. Visit the UIL website HERE to make sure you have the most current form before printing for the 2009-2010 school year.
