Announcing Sports Medicine III for 2012

An application has been submitted to the Texas Education Agency for approval by the State Board of Education for a Sports Medicine III Course to be included in the TSATA sponsored Sports Medicine Instructors’ Courses. This new optional one or two semester course for seniors provides a logical progression for students that have advanced through the Sports Medicine I and II courses and provide them with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in athletic injury recognition, evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation through research investigations and applications related to sports medicine. Sports Medicine III will provide opportunities for the advanced students in the sports medicine program to research, investigate, prepare, and present case studies, research projects, poster presentations, and power point presentations on instructor approved topics. Sports Medicine III will provide the senior level athletic training students the opportunity to explore a health care career of their choice. This exploration will provide observation experiences with an approved health care professional mentor in the work setting. This new course will be valuable to students needing an additional academic elective credit for working in the athletic training program to maintain their high academic standing in the graduation class.

The syllabus for Sports Medicine III will be presented in the TSATA Instructors’ Courses and the Update Courses offered in 2012.
